Easy Sloppy Joe Recipe

Made without mustard, Worcestershire, or brown sugar, this easy sloppy joe recipe is just like grandma used to make... with the addition of fresh veggies. All the ingredients combine and cook in one skillet on the stovetop in about 30 minutes for a quick meal prep or weeknight dinner option everyone loves!

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 large white onion diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper diced
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup ketchup or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions
 

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat on the stove.
  • Lightly grease the skillet with cooking spray, add the veggies, and sauté just until tender.

  • Add the beef, and cook, breaking it into pieces, until it's no longer pink.
    1 pound lean ground beef
  • Add the water, ketchup, and seasonings, stirring to combine.
    1/2 cup water, 1 cup ketchup, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon oregano, 1 bay leaf
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer, and cook over medium heat to the desired thickness.
  • Season to taste, remove the bay leaf, and serve warm.

Notes

Storage: Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and store in the fridge for 3-4 days. Or, freeze for up to 4 months. To serve, thaw in the fridge overnight, and reheat in the microwave or in a skillet over medium heat.
